SCZ Electrical Services specialises in the upgrading of Consumer Units (commonly known as Fuse Boxes) in peoples homes.
A consumer unit is the ‘fuse box’ which goes between your electricity meter and electrical circuits in your home. The modern units that are used these days are made from metal and as such they are fire resistant, they do not contain fuses, but RCDS (Residual Current Device ) and MCB’s (Miniature Circuit Breakers) or RCBO’s ( Residual Circuit Breaker with Overcurrent protection). RCDs protect against dangerous leakage current, MCB’s are designed to protect against overloads and short circuits and will prevent any damage to cables and equipment at the other end of a circuit.RCBOs do the job of both whilst also offering additional benefits to the user in the event of a fault as only one circuit at a time is affected.
This is why we only fit RCBO’s into our consumer unit upgrades.
Other devices that can be fitted include surge protection, arc protection and emergency lighting.
All consumer unit (fuse box) changes, upgrades or replacements meet current 18th Edition wiring regulations, are fully certificated and registered with the local Authority under Part P of The Building Regulations. Upgrading or replacing your fuse box might be something to consider, especially if your building has an old re-wireable consumer unit.
At SCZ Electrical Services we can come out to your home and give your fuse box a health check at a reasonable price.
